XplorerHD Broadcasting

Do you want to share your FPV adventures by allowing others to join you in live time? The XplorerHD features screen sharing mode where it can broadcast your live FPV feed to other goggles or the video receiver! 

There are several options to do this and we will cover all of them here.

Option #1 Direct Monitor Connection

When you purchase our kit, it will be bound (or paired) to an FPV goggle.

The video is captured from the camera, sent to the video transmitting device, then sent to your goggles. With the built-in head tracking module in the goggles, this device will send the position of the goggles back to the gimbal which allows head tracking to occur. 

Using this same concept, you can also purchase HD Receiver Module along with our XplorerHD RTR or POV 4K camera kit option. However, the HD Receiver Module does not have a screen and require an HD monitor with HDMI input to see your live video feed.

However, you will lose the head tracking feature as the HD Receiver Module does not have a head tracking sensor and it will be a fixed camera. 

If you choose to go with this option, please purchase the HD Receiver Module and the XplorerHD lineup camera of your choice as we can do a final check and bind it for you. 

 

Option #2 Direct Connection /w Head tracking

If you absolutely need head tracking but still want to share your live video feed, the Goggle X bundle will be another choice to consider. 

This applies to both our XplorerHD RTR camera and the POV 4K options but must be used with the Goggle X bundle. 

The goggle X has an HDMI output so you can directly connect the HDMI cable from your goggle X to the monitor of your choosing. However, due to the direct connect, the HDMI cable may impede your movements while using the head tracking option as the cable is directly connected to the goggles. From our experience, certain HDMI cable brands do not have a solid connector so the connector disconnects from time to time. 

Option #3 Screen sharing (broadcasting)

The XplorerHD are equipped with screen sharing mode as the goggle acts like a broadcasting station. Please note, this mode will only work if the firmware are matching and will only work with XplorerHD compatible goggles. (Will not directly work with VR goggles, tablets, or the YoHD series goggles) 

If you have extra sets of Goggle L or Goggle X, you can enable broadcasting mode (screen sharing mode) as other goggles can tap into the live video feed. The goggles receiving this broadcast cannot control the head tracking but view the live video feed on your main goggle's operations. OR

The main reason for this blog post is utilizing the HD Receiver. You can utilize all features of the XplorerHD without any impediment of cables being attached to your goggles. Also, both the Goggle L and Goggle X can utilize this feature which makes it a very flexible and powerful option to share your live FPV video.

Before anything, we need to check the firmware (FW) to see if they are matching.

To check the FW's, here are the steps:

Main goggle first

Power on the goggle and the camera unit. Then go into the goggle menu by pressing the toggle switch on the goggle. (like a button)

Settings --> Device --> Device Info

There will be a pop up that shows both the FW for the goggle and the camera unit.

• Goggle SW Version will be the FW for the goggles, in a format of XX.XX.XX
• TX SW Version will be the FW for the camera unit, in a format of XX.XX.XX

If the TX SW Version does not show up, this means either the camera unit is off or the camera unit is unbound, OR the boot sequence is not fully performed so you may need to wait. (If you see the live video, then it is working as intended)

This FW number is imperative when you email us as we need this number to help you update or troubleshoot 

Please write this number down for reference.

For the screen sharing goggles that will receive this broadcast, please repeat the steps to get the "Goggle SW Version". You will NOT need the camera unit to be ON at this time. 

Please make sure the FW are matching for all devices. If not, please email us at support@ironquad.com with all the FW numbers for the devices. 

Screen sharing Step #1

We will focus on the main goggle that is bound to your camera first as we need to enable the broadcasting feature. Both the camera unit and the main goggles must be turned on and make sure you are getting live video feed before proceeding. 

For reference, the main goggle is the one that is bound (paired) to your camera unit.

Go to the goggle menu and navigate to:

Settings --> Broadcast (XXXXX) and toggle to ON

Now your main goggles are broadcasting your live FPV video for other goggles to receive it.

Screen sharing Step #2

Do not power off the main goggle and camera unit and keep them ON.

Now, power on the other goggles and/or HD receiver module. 

As a reminder, we are not touching the main goggles but the other goggles or HD receiver Module.

Navigate to:

Share --> Share (with a slider)

Enable the Slider to the "right position" to turn it ON. Please wait for 10-20 seconds and you will see a "MAC ID" that will show up on the bottom of this section. If you do not see this, then press "Refresh" next to the Share Slider. 

Once you have selected the MAC ID, you will receive live video feed. If you are using an HD Receiver Module, connect the HDMI to the monitor of your choosing. 

Here are somethings to consider when using the HD Receiver Module or Goggles in spectator mode:

• Do not recommend giving the controls to your RC as the spectator video feed will have a delay compared to your main goggle
• Range is more limited as the main goggle may still have solid video feed but the spectator goggles may cut out
• Whenever the main goggle is turned OFF, these steps must be repeated as the settings will reset.
